We consume a lot of food, drinks, wear a lot of clothes and use a lot of other materials. When we enjoy these goodies, we left a lot of carboards, packages, bottles, plastic containers, and others. Some of them can be sold to recycling places, others have to be thrown away. Therefore, we create a lot of wastes. They fill up dumpsters and landfills. In addition, we can find twigs and dried leaves, sand and pebbles from nature and use them in the mosaics. We want to turn trash into treasure, into artworks.
|
We could use bottle caps, plastic covers, old clothes, magazine and newspapers, straws, oyster shells, sand and pebbles, twigs and dried leaves, as mosaic materials. We can use a pair of scissors and a small saw to cut materials in desired shapes and sizes.
We can wear a pair of gloves for safety, wrap broken glass or oyster shells in a towel, use a small hammer to break them down into smaller pieces, and use a pair of tweezers to pick them up. After we finish processing these materials, we can use Crazy glue to glue plastics, glass bits, oyster shell bits, on a cardboard or wood board. We prepare a cardboard with a simple drawing of maybe a scenery or a smiling face, with pencils, ballpoint pens or markers. We can use regular glue to attach pieces of magazine or newspaper pages, or packages, to the carboards. Before we apply the Crazy Glue, it is recommended that we wear disposable glove to prevent glue from adhering to our fingers. Voila, the trash is turned into beautiful artistic treasure. |
Company logos are used to represent the identity of the business to the consumers. Generally speaking, there are four styles of logos: (1) logos made of letters only; (2) Logos made of letters as principal element, combined with a large graphic element on the side; (3) Logos made of letters as principal element, combined with a small graphic element on one of the letters; and (4) Logos made of graphics as principal element, placing the name of the company inside the graphics.
For logos using letters as principal design elements, in the above-mentioned styles (1), (2), and (3), we spend time and efforts to select a good font that represent the characteristics of the company; for example, we can use a cursive font with smooth and curved strokes for a woman-owned company selling fashions, or we can use a sans-serif font for a company that sells men’s clothes. In these types of logos, we often try to combine two neighboring letters into “ligatures,” to create a unique look for the company. |
For styles (2) and (3), “logos made of letters as principal element, combined with a large graphic element on the side,” and “logos made of letters as principal element, combined with a small graphic element on one of the letters,” we usually can create a simple graphic that is made of simple visual elements, such as square, circles, triangles, curved shapes.
Style (4) is rarely used nowadays. Realistic images or animals, vehicles, human figures and others are extensively used in this style. Choose one of the above four styles to create a company logo. |
